Ahora, ¡a disfrutar!

Question: Would you like to be in Acapulco?

ACAPULCO ON THE ROOF

That´s what we tried to replicate on our roofs and patios whenever we stayed in the city during spring break or summer vacations, dreaming with the beaches of Acapulco and Veracruz. This year will be different, although I will not go to the beach. Instead, I will behave as if I by one. At least on the weekends from now until the end of the summer. By then, I will have more energy, better health and physical strength. This is what I will do:

  1. Visit the parks, beaches and woods of the Bay Area with family and friends. We will play soccer, volleyball and tag. It beats sitting around watching television.
  2. Eat a lot of jicamas, cucumbers and pineapple with lime and chili powder instead of potato chips and other snacks filled with fat, refined flour, salt and artificial ingredients that sap our energy, don´t nourish us and add pounds to our bodies.
  3. Drink a lot of water and home-made lemonade with real lemons. It is important to keep our bodies hydrated when the weather is hot to ensure that our organs work properly, that we replenish fluids lost in sweat and that our bodies don’t overheat. Sodas, canned juices, “sports drinks” and other packaged beverages contain sugars and synthetic sweeteners that make us feel thirstier, expand our stomachs and provoke cavities. Television ads make us crave for these beverages. But we know what our bodies need when we are thirsty!
  4. Eat more fish and less meat for better digestion and more energy. How about some fish ceviche?
  5. Use sunblock, hats and caps to protect our skin from harmful sun exposure.

Can you picture yourself radiant and full of energy? Before writing the supermarket list, try to imagine what you would like to eat if you were by the beach. You will end up buying much more fruit, vegetables and other fresh foods and less frozen and packaged foods that don’t nourish you and make you gain weight. Enjoy!
